One Night in December is simply a work about value. 25 umbrellas offer shelter. Each umbrella states it is 1 of 25. This is an edition where all are equal, all are first in line, except they are not the same really, they are all different by the means they were made. It tries to prevent any kind of hierarchy in art and value but inevitably it will find a way and then he gives them away for free anyway.
About the Artist
He spent a week with Ed Ruscha and their most in depth conversation was about moving a piece 3cm to the left.
Everyone told him Jeff Koons was going to lose his mind if the work was 3mm too low, but Jeff arrived, had his make up done and was interviewed. All was fine.
Luc Tuymans told him to ‘Get the shit on the wall’.
He was introduced to Giuseppe Penone to advise on the probability of falling rocks.
